MR personnel flees with four guns

Imphal, June 08, 2013:
A Rifleman of 5th Manipur Rifles, who was posted on duty along Imphal-Jiribam road to ensure security to the workers engaged in construction of railway lines, has reportedly taken flight along with four guns and some ammunitions.
Among the four guns, two SLRs have been subsequently recovered by the police during search operation.
The MR Jawan in question has been identified as Jamkholal Lupho (30) of Maphou Kuki village under Senapati district.
His rifleman number is 022006178. According to Police reports, the MR Jawan was on duty to safeguard the railway construction workers at Khulbung area which is located around 60/70 kms to the north east of Tousem Police Station in Tamenglong district.
But he escaped from his place of duty along with four guns and some ammunition around 2:30 pm yesterday.
He was part of the MR team stationing in a mobile camp at Khulbung village.
The report further said that following the incident, a joint combing operation was conducted in the jungles surrounding the Khulbung camp yesterday evening.
The combing operation was jointly conducted by personnel of 5th MR, SDPO of Tamenglong District Police, OC of Tousem Police Station, personnel of 22 AR, 143 CRPF and the Territorial Army.
The combing operation continued till today during which the security personnel recovered two SLRs from the jungle which was probably left by the fleeing MR jawan.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered with Jiribam Police Station.
According to another source, it is said that Khulbung area is a stronghold area of UTLA, a Kuki militant group.
