State observes World Environment Day

Manipur Chief Secretary PC Lawmkunga stressed the need for a concerted effort on Friday to preserve environment with collective understanding of the impact of environmental degradation currently witnessing everywhere.
The Chief Secretary was participating in the World Environment Day observation held at the Maharaj Chandrakirti auditorium.
"Seven Billion Dreams.
One Planet Consume with Care" was the theme of this year's edition of the WED 2015.
As chief guest of the function, organized by the Directorate of Environment, Manipur, PC Lawmkunga in his speech further stated that rainfall rate has declined in the past few years due to imbalance in environment.

"The deficient monsoon has caused problem to cultivation.
We need to work together to save the environment considering such difficulties," the Chief Secretary said.
On the occasion of WED, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam also highlighted the need for the present generation to take major role in saving the environment for future generations to come.
Gaikhangam flagged off an environment rally-cum awareness programme from DM College, Thangmeiband.
Speaking on the occasion, he stated that conducting awareness programmes on protecting environment is of paramount importance.
The rally was participated by a number of members from Royal Riders Manipur, Manipur Adventure Mountaineering Bi-Cycle Association and Film Forum Manipur.
The rally carrying the message of environment covered Khurai, Konung Mamang and Moirangkhom and later culminated at Langol Game Village.
DESAM observes WED
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) also joined the rest of the world in observing the WED.
As part of the observance, Board of Secondary School Manipur (BOSEM) Secretary Ch Sarat flagged off a cycle rally which carried the message on saving the environment.
Students from various schools took part in the rally which was flagged from DESAM headquarter.
The cyclists paddled through Keishamthong, Moirangkhom.
Singjamei, Kongba, Ayangpali , Lamlong Keithel, Dinku Road and stopped at Thangmeiband Thau Ground where a huge public rally was held.
Divisional Forest Officer L Joykumar, All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) president Wangkhemcha Shamjai and social activist Dhanbir Laishram were the chief guest, the president and the guest of honour of the event.
