Imphal, December 16 2009:
The campaign period for the bye-election to 14-Yaiskul AC to be held on December 19 will come to an end at 3 pm tomorrow (Thursday).
Election campaigns of Congress candidate Elangbam Suraj and Independent candidate Hanjabam Jaydev Sharma, who is being supported by MPP, BJP and three left parties, are going on in full swing.
Other two candidates- A Jagdish Sharma (Ind) and S Rajendrakumar (JD-S) are not seen campaigning.
Meanwhile, Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur PC Lawmkunga has informed in a press note that political leaders, workers of any political party, procession functionaries, campaign workers or group, etc.
who have been brought from outside Yaiskul AC, and who are not voters of the constituency, should leave the constituency immediately after the conclusion of campaign period, i.e.immediately after 3 pm of December 17 .
The press release further informed, they should not continue to remain present in the constituency as their continued presence after the campaign period will undermine the atmosphere for free and fair poll.
Movement of vehicles inside 14-Yaiskul AC immediately after close of campaign period will be watched strictly by the DCs/District Election Officers, Imphal East and Imphal West and SPs of both the districts.
Any lapse in this regard will be viewed seriously and appropriate necessary actions will be taken in consultation with the Election Commission of India.
