Imphal, December 16 2009:
Chief Minister O Ibobi has asserted that development works can be taken up if the Congress candidate, Elangbam Suraj is elected in the bye-election to 14-Yaiskul Assembly Constituency to be held on December 19 .
Chief Minister Ibobi was speaking at an election meeting organised by Yaiskul Kendra Block Congress Committee held at Brahmapur Nahabam Basketball ground today.
He said, there will be no use in electing an Independent candidate.
If the electorate of the constituency votes for the candidate of the ruling party, Suraj, all the Congress MLAs and Ministers will join hands to help him take up a lot of developmental programmes for the constituency.
The Chief Minister further said that the leaders of the opposition parties are the ones who had been rejected by the people.
They are simply spending time speaking meaningless words in the hope that they may be able to rebuild their lost political career.
Even the three left parties are also the same, the Chief Minister said adding that they have not been able to nominate their own candidates in the bye-election.
What can they do by supporting Jaydev, he asked.
A stable government is required to solve all the issues prevailing in Manipur, he said and appealed to the electorate of Yaiskul AC to elect Elangbam Suraj to strengthen Congress party in order to cooperate with the government to solve the various issues.
President of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), Gaikhangam who also spoke at the election meeting said that fighting the bye-election to Yaiskul AC not all that difficult a task.
It would be the best judgement on the part of the voters of Yaiskul AC to vote for the candidate of the ruling party.
Winning the election is a certainty, he said.
While shooting at the animal, if the bullet misses it, the hunter has to starve.
Therefore, it will be a great loss for the people of Yaiskul AC if Suraj is not elected, Gaikhangam said.
Other MLAs, Ministers and leaders of MPCC, who spoke at the meeting, poured diatribes on the Independent candidate, Jaydev.
They also strongly criticised the political parties which were supporting him.
