Mao Council calls off bandh

Kangpokpi, May 22 2015 : After assurance from the State Government to immediately begin inquiry into the encroachment issue in Koz�ri and Dz�kou Valley areas and also to approach Nagaland Government to thrash out the issue, Mao Council has decided to called off its proposed 24-hour Manipur total bandh which was scheduled to begin from Friday midnight.

According to Mao Council, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh assured the Council of initiating necessary action with his Nagaland counterpart TR Zeliang on the issue and immediately begin inquiry into the matter.

It may be mentioned that the apex body of Mao tribe had submitted a memorandum seeking the State Government's intervention in the encroachment in Koz�ri and Dz�kou Valley areas.

Mao Council in an attempt to draw the attention of the State Government on the issue had called a 24-hour the total bandh.

UNC, Naga Hoho should intervene in Dz�kou issue: LIPU League of Indigenous Peoples' Upliftment (LIPU) supporting the strike called by Mao Council and Committee for Koz�ri and Dz�kou Land Boundaries had alleged that the United Naga Council (UNC) and Naga Hoho is keeping mum about the land encroachment by people from Nagaland.

The civil society organisation also asked the UNC who has been working with Naga Hoho for unification of the Nagas to bring about an amicable solution between the Naga groups in conflict.

The Nagaland Government should also take up certain steps to avoid enmity with Manipur Government and the Manipur Government should also defend its territory bravely says a press release from LIPU.

The civil society organisation also appeal that different communities in Northeast should live in harmony and help each other in keeping the unique identity.
