Drivers Association alleges police extortion

Manipur Drivers Welfare Association threatened to launch agitation if their demand of reducing police checks posts between Imphal and Jiribam from existing 7 to 2.The association also alleged that police personnel in Senapati are extorting Rs 200 each from the trucks which the home minister should take notice for proper action, says a press release from the general secretary of the association.
The secretary also informed that there has been positive outcome at Dimapur after meeting the deputy commissioner of Dimapur on reducing Mobile MBI and Traffic for a smooth passage.
The DC had also assured them of reducing the number of check posts.
The meeting was held with drivers association of Senapati, Tadubi, Kohima, Dimapur and Bokajan along with the officials.
However situation is discouraging in Manipur even though Home Minister had given his assurance to reduce to two check posts instead of 5 in National Highway 2, says the release.
