Trinamool releases manifesto

Releasing its manifesto for the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly election to be held on January 28, Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress pledged to promote unity and peaceful co-existence, build cordial relationship with neighbouring States and establish State Legislative Council for represen- tation of smaller ethnic groups.
The manifesto released jointly by the political organisation's national spokesman Derek O Brien, State unit president Kim Gangte and Youth Trinamool Congress chief Sourav Choudhuri at the Hotel Excelle-ncy office of MPTC also emphasised on effective and transparent governance, work for creating a cordial socio-political environment, development of economic infrastructure, streamline public distribution system, infrastructure development of health care system, etc.
Highlighting that love, respect and understanding had been missing among the people, Trinamool Congress pledged to take all possible steps for re-igniting the bond of love and mutual respect.
It also assured to focus on protection and development of the lifelines (NHs); implement inner-line permit system as done in other North Eastern States; scrap Protected Area Permit; pursue amicable political solution to the insurgency problems; frame and implement youth-specific policies with special emphasis on creating employment opportunities; women empowerment through provision of financial support to victims of crime, domestic violence and HIV/AIDS, enact legislation to deal with sexual assault and child abuse, joint matrimonial property rights for women, etc; remove draconian laws for protection of human rights; effective education system for development of human resource; develop infrastructure for economic development; oppose FDI in retail trade in Manipur; promotion of dignity of labour, farmers, fi- shermen and un-organised sectors; development of agriculture and horticulture sectors; promotion of tourism sector; effective legislation for protection of environment; ensure efficient health system; promotion of tribal dialects; acceleration of railway works for better transport and communication; and welfare schemes for employees and journalists.
The Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress is contesting in 47 seats out of 60 assembly constituencies in Manipur.
