CCpur, December 17 2019:
The Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) today reminded Chief Minister N Biren Singh about his promise to repair and reconstruct the Thingkeu-Henglep road, a 32 kilometres stretch.
KSO Henglep Block in a statement, issued by its general secretary Jangkholun Haokip today, claimed that the CM had on the Assembly floor during the March, 2017 session stated that he would construct anew the Thingkeu Henglep road, which remained neglected by previous Governments.
KSO also recalled that the CM had also reiterated the same during the "Go to hills" function the same year at Churachandpur Public Ground stating that "Rs 58 crore was earmarked/sanctioned for the proposed new construction of Thingkeu-Henglep road".
He had assured that the construction of the road would start from the next financial year.
However, the promise is yet to see light even after two and half years, said KSO.
"It has been reliably learnt that though the NEC section/department of Manipur PWD had got prepared the DPR (Detailed Project Report) of the said road by a Kolkata based firm within March, 2018, the Government of Manipur had not sent its recommendations to the NEC (North Eastern Council), or DoNER (Department of North Eastern Region, or MoRTH (Ministry of Road Transport and Highways) .
Hence the matter is stuck in limbo," said KSO adding that when they contacted Henglep MLA, he expressed his helplessness in the matter as "he has been kept in the dark till date" .
The public of Henglep now wants to know if at all the said road (new construction) is on the agenda of the Government, KSO said urging the Government to do the needful to expedite the work at the earliest.
