Orgns urge GoI to expedite Naga peace process

A mammoth public peace rally held on Tuesday in Noney has demanded the Government of India (GoI) to expedite the ongoing Naga peace process.
The rally was organized by the Committee on Peace in Longmai Area under the aegis of the United Naga Council (UNC).
The peace committee comprised of different Church leaders, civil society organisations, Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) and others.
The rally started from Noney market Bridge point at around 9.45 am on Tuesday and the participants marched till the 8th Assam Rifles Gate before returning to Noney market bridge point at around 12 noon where a public meeting was held.
UNC President Gaidon Kamei and FNR, South Sector Rev Keiba Riamei addressed the rally.

During his speech, UNC President Gaidon appealed all the Naga Political Groups (NPGs) and the people to lend support to the common cause of the Nagas and exhorted them to stop bloodshed within "Naga brothers." He demanded that the Government should solve the protracted Naga issue within a time frame based on unique Naga history.
Gaidon pointed out that Nagas should not compromise till all the issues are settled and appealed the public not to forget the commitment attached to the "national movement".
He said the Naga movement began with the aim to achieve "our inherent rights".
He further asked the people to remain alert and cope with any eventualities.
Keiba Riamei said that FNR has been working for reconciliation of the Nagas and he appealed all the factions, civil organisations and church leaders to support the campaign to bring about unity among the Nagas.
A memorandum signed by civil society organizations, church leaders and village chiefs during the rally will be forwarded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The memorandum has urged Modi to expedite the "Indo-Naga" peace process so that a logical conclusion could be arrived at.
"It also our expectation that the ongoing Indo-Naga Peace Talk is translated into political reality under your able and dynamic leadership in a time bound manner", the Memorandum added.
The rally participants held placards which read "we want solution but not revolution", "resolve vexed Naga political issue", "Nagas for reconciliation and Unity", "we want permanent peace, No more bloodshed" etc.
Over ten thousands of people from all walks of life attended the rally.
