James Sangma tests positive

Imphal, September 12 2020:
Meghalaya Power Minister James K Sangma, who is the elder brother of Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has been tested positive for COVID-19 at Imphal airport today.
Meghalaya Chief Minister and National People's Party (NPP) president Conrad K Sangma and his elder brother James K Sangma arrived at Imphal this afternoon in connection with possible Ministry reshuffle of the State Govern- ment led by Chief Minister N Biren and by-election to 13 Assembly seats.
Four NPP Ministers including Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar were waiting for their arrival at the airport.
Soon after Conrad Sangma and James Sangma deboarded, they were subjected to COVID-19 test and James K Sangma was found positive.
Nonetheless, the four NPP Ministers of the State and Conrad Sangma held a meeting at Hotel Classic Grande till late evening.
The meeting deliberated on possible reshuffle of the Biren Government's Council of Ministers.
Another key agenda of the meeting was whether NPP should field candidates in the by-election to 13 Assembly seats of the State or not, sources informed.
Earlier, Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar stated that the by-election was not the primary concern of NPP yet he hinted that NPP might field candidates in some Assembly segments, if not in all the vacant seats.
He also said that the matter would be discussed with NPP president Conrad Sangma at Imphal.
By elections here are expected to be held along with the Assembly polls at Bihar.
