Imphal, September 12 2020:
Fair Price Shops agents at Ukhrul have stopped transporting NFSA rice protesting non payment of remuneration for 36 months.
The agents said that one M/S Lamyanba Enterprises had earlier transported rice under NFSA (National Food Security Act) from FCI go-down at Ukhrul to Chingai, Phungyar and Ukhrul Assembly Constituencies.
As the enterprise stopped transporting the rice, the fair price shop agents and 'transporters' have been ferrying the rice since October 2017 .
They alleged that they have not been paid the transportation charge, margin money, charge of loading and unloading since then.
There are around 150 agents in the three Assembly Constituencies.
Transportation of rice for one month costs around Rs 10,000 .
The Government owes an agent about Rs 3,60,000 (for 36 months), they said.
They had met the CAPF&PD Minister and Director concerned but they have not been paid the money till today, they said.
"We have loaded trucks with rice but it will not be transported until we are paid," they said, appealing the Government and Department concerned to pay them the remuneration for the 36 months.
