Imphal, December 05 2014 :
Dilapidated and outdated Lokchao bailey bridge which is one of the key bridges of the Imphal-Moreh section of Asian Highway-I is most likely to get a new lease of life.
Transport and Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar today travelled up to Moreh and inspected the existing condition of the highway.
Talking to the accompanying media team, Dr Ratankumar announced that the Lokchao bridge would be repaired shortly.
Although a proposal has been sent to the relevant Ministry of the Government of India to replace the outdated bailey bridge with an RCC bridge, the same proposal is yet to receive the necessary approval.

Nonetheless, the State Government would dig into its coffer and repair the bridge in view of the key connectivity the bridge provides in the backdrop of India's Look East Policy and the Government's policy shift towards ASEAN countries.
The repairing work would start within a week by the latest, Dr Ratankumar declared.
Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Imphal visit recently assured that connectivity between Imphal and ASEAN countries would see significant improvement in the coming years.
