Many condemn Silent village attack

The Tangkhul Naga Aze Longphang (TNAL) and Tangkhul Katamnao Long Delhi (TKLD) have strongly condemned the attack on Silent village by inhabitants of Seijang yesterday.
After a meeting with the Silent villagers at the spot today, the TNAL said it viewed the incident as serious and dangerous.
Condemning the incident in the strongest term, a statement issued by TNAL secretary, Rockson A Shimray termed the act as beastly which can be committed only by uneducated and uncivilised group of people.
Appealing all concerned to restrain from committing such acts in future, the TNAL also said the incident should never be viewed in the prism of communal line.
The statement further warned of launching agitation if the demand for immediate booking of the culprits and fitting punishment against them is not fulfilled.
Meanwhile, a statement issued by the president of TKLD, Thothuingam Shinglai demanded stringent punishment for hooligans who have taken the law into their hands and orchestrated such unlawful barbaric act.
Strongly deploring such wanton acts of violence which have inflicted immense suffering to the people of Silent Village, the TKLD statement demanded justice against the unjustifiable act of burning granaries, destroying the resources of livelihood and for the outrageous act of rendering many homeless.
Recalling that in December 2012, Ukhrul bound buses were attacked and inflicted injuries to students going home for Christmas, the TKLD statement said that the lackadaisical attitude of the Government has encouraged the offenders this time around.
It further added that it is high time that the Government deals with it seriously and restore the trust deficit.
To avoid further fallout between communities, the Centre and Government of Manipur should ensure safety of the traumatised citizens and address the immediate requirements of the victims, it urged.
The statement, while sharing the pain and sorrow of the families whose houses were gutted and rendered homeless, also applauded the courage of Silent villagers for not retaliating in contemptible manner.
It added that their prayers are with Silent villagers ever as they seek to uphold non-violence and promote peace among communities.
The All Tribal Chief Forum, (ATCF) has also condemned the burning down of 36 houses of Silent Village by the Seijang Villagers by taking law into their own hands.
In a statement, the ATCF warned that if the lawlessness, which is an act of cowardice and inhumanity, is allowed to prevail in the state preventing the law of the land to take its own course, it will further aggravate the situation.
On the other hand, the Forum also condemned the bomb attack carried out at the residence of IFC Minister Ngamthang Haokip and appealed those responsible to refrain from committing such an act of crimes in the future.
