Smart city command centre in pipeline

An integrated command and control centre which would be used for multiple purposes including traffic management of Imphal city would be opened soon under the Smart City Mission.
A joint meeting of stake holders of the Smart City Mission was held today with Chief Secretary Dr J Suresh Babu this morning where high ranking officials of Works, PHE, Power, MAHUD and Transport Departments were also present.
After noting that survey for smart city project to be implemented at Imphal has been already completed, the meeting decided to open an integrated command and control centre.
The centre would start functioning at the Secretariat building being constructed at Mantripukhri at the initial stage before a permanent office is constructed near 2nd MR complex.
The meeting also gave approval to removal of PWD quarters located near MR complex to make space for the integrated command and control centre.
The centre's building would be constructed as an iconic building of the State and it would have necessary infrastructure to work round the clock.
CCTV cameras would be installed at all the 27 traffic junctions located within Imphal city and adjoining areas.
Additional CCTV cameras would be installed at these points to monitor violation of traffic rules, informed an official.
Traffic regulation would be done through the centre after identifying places which are traffic heavy as well as other places where vehicular traffic is thin.
People who do not obey traffic rules and registration numbers of their vehicles would be recorded using cameras at the traffic junctions.
After identifying the defaulters from the video clips, law enforcing agencies would take up necessary action, said the official.
Due process for opening the integrated command and control centre and laying of underground optical fibres for connecting cameras installed at traffic junctions to the centre would be initiated soon.
Criminal activities committed within Imphal city would also be monitored at the centre.
A bar code would be issued to each household and dustbin of Imphal city.
Firms/agencies engaged in collection of solid wastes would be instructed to use these bar codes, said the official.
The Government would soon launch a mobile app which will point out all the places of Imphal city.
The app would also point out places where public toilets are located.
GPS-fitted bicycles would be placed at different places and there would be exclusive cycling tracks, conveyed the official.
Under the Smart City Mission, solar trees would be installed at certain selected places like Govindajee Temple, Assembly complex, Indira Park etc.
There is also a plan to construct a riverfront cycling track between Sanjenthong and Minuthong, the official added.
