In a unique form of protest against the ceasefire extension to Manipur, all students from the primary level to the university level have decided to surrender their text books to the Governor, Ved Marwah.
The decision was taken during a meeting of all Secondary schools held at Tamphasana Girls� Higher Secondary School last evening.
The students at the meeting expressed that there is no value for them to pursue their academic career if the territorial boundary of the State is to be compromised.
The text books will be turned in to the Governor between July 16 and 21.Disclosing this to the press, the general secretary of CC Higher Secondary School, Premjit said that the student community in the State will intensify their stir until and unless the Government of India decides to revoke the ceasefire extension agreement.
All preparations to launch a series of peaceful and democratic agitation are ready, he informed.
Apart from sporting black badges, putting up banners, taking out rallies and staging sit-in-protest, the students will take up a number of agitations, he said.
Respects were paid to the fifteen martyrs who laid down their lives to safeguard the territorial integrity of Manipur in yesterday�s meeting.
AMSU president-in-charge M Ingo said that they will not entertain any invitation from the Government for talks until the ceasefire is revoked and also until the AMSU leaders who are currently in jail are released.
In the meantime Manipur Students Association Delhi leader S Bungbung said that Manipuri students studying at Delhi are taking up a number of agitation programmes under the aegis of the United Committee Manipur (UCM).
The students will stage dharnas and agitations in front of Parliament when it convenes for the Monsoon session, he informed.
