Mizoram to hold talks with Sanate faction of HPC(D)

The Mizoram government has decided to hold talks with Lalhmingthanga Sanate faction of Hmar People's Convention (Democratic) or HPC (D) within this month, a senior Mizoram home department official said on Monday .
Mizoram state additional secretary for home Lalbiakzamasaid that there has been proposal to hold talks with Sanate led faction of HPC-D to ensure that they also come overground when a peace accord is signed with the faction led by H Zosangbera with which the state government is holding peace talks .
"Negotiation has been carried out to some extent with the Sanate faction and it has been proposed to hold talks in Aizawl within this month," he said, adding that the date for talks is yet to be fixed .
Preparations have been made to resume parleys with H.Zosangbera led faction next month (September) if the talks with Sanate faction turn out to be fruitful, he said .
He expressed hope that the next round of peace talks with H.Zosangbera faction would be the last official level talks after which it would be elevated to political level parleys .
Sources said that the ongoing peace talks between Mizoram government and HPC(D) which revolved around creating Sinlung Hills Council is nearing to its conclusion .
It can be noted here that, on last Friday, the cabinet had approved Election to Sinlung Hills Development Council Rules, 2017 .
Meanwhile, H.Zosangbera faction of HPC(D) strongly welcomed the state government's decision to hold peace talks with the HPC(D) faction led by Lalhmingthanga Sanate in order to find amicable solution to the Hmar political imbroglio .
A statement issued by John F Hmar, Information and Publicity Secretary of the HPC (D) on Monday expressed desire that the talks with Sanate faction be successful .
"The talks with Sanate faction would pave the way for early and permanent solution to the vexed Hmar problem and we convey our best wishes to hold the talks under cordial atmosphere and mutual trust," the statement also said .
Sanate, former general secretary of the erstwhile underground HPC, was the founder president of HPC (D) when the outfit went underground soon after the erstwhile HPC signed peace accord with Mizoram government on July 27, 1994 .
The split in the HPC-D was a recent history.
