Electricity Consumer Awareness Campaign held

Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited (MSPDCL), Thoubal division in association with Yairipok sub-division organized one day Electricity Consumers Awareness campaign at SEDO community hall, Yairipok bazar on August 3.The awareness campaign which was held under the theme "Save Energy For Future Generation, Save Money" was attended by general manager MSPDCL (EC-II) B Ibomcha Sharma, deputy general manager MSPDCL, Thoubal division L Selungba Singh, manager MSPDCL Yairipok sub-division Ph Uma Singh and Head of Project cum Commercial, MSPDCL Thoubal division KSanjitkumar Singh as presidium members.
Speaking at the occasion, chief guest B Ibomcha Sharma pointed out that earlier people used to think of electricity as free service which is a wrong notion while adding that time has come to understand the value of electricity which is of paramount importance for the modern society.
He continued that after the privatisation of the electricity department, MSPDCL has been purchasing electricity from other state at higher price and distributing it to the public at a subsidised rate and as such public must save electricity.
Asserting that the people of Manipur now enjoyed at least 20 hours power supply as against the targeted 24 hours as a result of converting the electricity department into a corporate, he appealed the gatherings to pay electricity bills regularly so that the corporation may be able to supply power in a sustainable manner.
He also said that under MSPDCL (EC-II), the revenue collection figure for Thoubal sub-division is the lowest as compare to other sub-division at Churachandpur, Pheizwrel, Bishnupur, Thoubal and Kakching.
He also referred on the need of sincerity from amongst the staff of MSPDCL and the requirement to maintain a healthy relationship with the consumers to increase revenue of the corporation.
While educating the public that power theft and illegal used of electricity is a punishable offence under Indian Electricity Act, 2003 and an FIR can be lodged against those found using power in illicit manner with fine and other legal action, he also informed that drive against power theft would be carried out soon.
The awareness campaign which saw participation from locals of different villages of Yairipok ended with an interaction programme where many questions and answers were exchanged between the participants and the officials of the MSPDCL.
