Imphal, November 01 2019:
The Canadian Manipuri Association has appealed all communities residing in the State to maintain peace in view of the ongoing Indo Naga peace talk.
A statement of the association today said it welcomes an amicable Naga solution which would not compromise Manipur's integrity.
It is apprehensive that the Indo-Naga settlement may involve segregation of the indigenous inhabitants of Manipur which dates back to thousands of years.
"This is not acceptable to us as this tantamount to segregation of the brotherly native brethren of the land based on linguistic background and can lead to animosity which can escalate into a wildfire," the association said.
"Manipuris of all hue and colour and of different faith and linguistics have been co-inhibiting for centuries and any irresponsible appeasement policy will not be in the interest of the region as a whole.
The settlement among the two warring side is welcomed by all sundry but any move to either disrespect the territory of Manipur or divide people based on linguistic background will be opposed tooth and nail from all Manipuris including us here.
We ardently request all indigenous people of Manipur to maintain the harmony," it said.
"We hope and believe the elected representative of Manipur also is giving their due attention to this apprehension of all the Manipuris, less the proverb Rome burns as Nero fiddle might happen in our Manipur, the flame of which will engulf us all," added the association.
