Express ing strong reservation over the conduct of a police team who came and took away a large quantity of Zarda, Khaini and Talab worth over Rs 1 lakh that it had seized during course of its ongoing anti-drug cam paign.
Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol(CADA) has applealed to the police not to repeat such acts in the future.
Talking to mediapersons in this connection, secre tary general of CADA Beikul Sagolsem informed that on receipt of specific in formation CADA volun teers were laying in wait at Koirengei and Sangakpham area today.
At that time, two Gypsies loaded with Zarda, Khaini and Talab came along with a vehicle of the police behind, Beikul said.
As soon as the CADA volunteers stopped the two Gypsies at Sangakpham turning, two women from the Gypsy bearing registration no.MN-05A-1636 came out and rushed to the police vehicle shouting for help while the other Gypsy managed to escape taking advantage of the situation, Beikul informed, adding that remaining Gypsy was brought to the office of CADA and a large number of Zarda, Khaini and Talab were seized from it.
He further informed that the seizure were being loaded in another vehicle so as to consign the banned items at a public place when a police team came and took possession of it.
Instead of helping the civil societies in fighting against the menace of drug abuse, such con duct of the police which appeared to be abating the problem is condemnable.
he said, while appealing to the police not to repeat such acts in the future.
