Kamjong, September 27 2012:
The aggrieved public of Kamjong have cried foul over non-functioning of the Sub-Divisional Office and questioned the prolonged absence of responsible authority in the station that has led to stale public transaction and caused scores of inconveniences.
In an interaction with this reporter, Kamjong public came up with a bundle of complaints regarding the sorry state of administration in the sub-division and alleged that the incumbent SDO totally neglect his duties.
The officer is more regular in his truancy from duty than his presence in the office ever since his posting in the border town last year.
On Thursday, the SDO office was found under lock and not even a single staff was anywhere to be seen.
The public complained that a staff from the concerned office has been issuing certificate relating to income, tribe and others from his residential house.
Since the month of August, the SDO was said to be in station only on two occasions on Independence Day and later reported again for a day to
the office.
"The negligence of duties by the SDO has caused lots of inconveniences to the public.
Due to his long absence from office, we have to go up to Ukhrul even for things that could have been done in Kamjong," said social activist AS Hongprao.
In Ukhrul district, Kamjong is considered as the most developed sub-divisional town.
However, locals are concerned that the administration has totally collapsed and the responsible authorities have turned a blind eye.
