On 79th anniversary of the Nupi Lan today, many organisations across the State commemorated the bravery of the womenfolk of the State who fought for freedom from the shackles of the Bristish Raj.
All Manipur Art and Culture Students' Union (AMACSU) remembered the day under the banner "Emasingeedmak" at Manipur Press Club, Imphal.
As a part of the commemoration ceremony, 24 achievers in the field of Art Were honoured with gifts and accolades.
Director Art and Culture A Shivadas Sharma, Representative Gurus (Raas Department) Konsam Kumar Singh and Senior Lecturer, Art History Department, Imphal Art College Arambam Hemanta Singh attended the event as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Meanwhile, United Manipur Muslim Women's Development Organisation (UMMWDO) too observed the Nupi Lan commemoration day at Manipur Press Club, Imphal.
Anwari Noorjahan, president UMMWDO, SM Jalal, president AMMOCOC, Md Rabi Khan, Advocate Secretary, Human Rights Council Manipur, president EEVFAM Renu Takhellambam, K Shangnaidar Tontang, secretary WSDC Chandel and Shah Nawaz, president AMMSO attended the event as presidium members.
Speaking at the event about the Nupi Lan which shown the bravery of the womenfolk of the State to the outside world, president UMMWDO Anwari Noorjahan said that the Muslim women too played instrumental roles in the uprising of the women during the time.
Recalling few names of the women who took part in the historical event, Noorjahan said, that Sarah Bibi of Kshetrigao Sabal Leikai and Khodi Bibi of Kshetri Mayai Leikai, Kshetrigao were among the Meitei Muslim women who faced the tyranny.
Commemorating the brave women, Noorjahan said that the present generation should learn and never forget the what the womenfolk had done for their freedom and rights against the British tyranny.
The present generation should never forget the cry of the women and the State for grains/food during the British-made famine, said Noorjahan.
She urged all organisations and women to continue to thrive for freedom from any oppression.
Manipuri Literary Society Imphal also remembered the day by holding a symposium to reflect the Nupi Lan at Manipur Hindi Parishad, Imphal.
Former president of Manipuri Literary Society Imphal, Ngangom Ekashini, District & Session Judge Senapati District, A Noutuneshwari, wife of Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Y Khemchand, Joymala Yumnam Secretary (Law & Order) Nungsitombi Athokpam and Women Against Crime, Manipur advisor S Sobita attended the event as presidium members.
31 poets and writers presented their poems at the event.
In Lanka in Assam's Hojai district, the Apunba Meira Paibi Lup, Hojai District Committee organised a commemoration ceremony.
The Nupi Lan memorial observation at Balunhandar was attended by the lup's president Thokchom Thoibi, Nongpok.
Leingak Apunba Nupi Lup Imphal president Y Mema, Assam Manipur Sahitya Parishad vice president Pukhrambam Kamini, Apunba Meira Paibi Lup Assam general secretary Lairenlakpam Beijanti, Headmistress Lanka High School Mutum Ongbi Chaobiton, JCILPS Imphal co-convenor YK Dhiren and UCM secretary organisation Ngangom Deva as presidium members.
Dignitaries and many locals who attended the programme paid tributes to the brave souls who took part in the Nupi Lan.
Former secretary of Assam Manipur Sahitya Parishad Nameirakpam Bidyababu and the parishad's Hojai District Committee vice president Wahengbam Joybabu attended the event as speakers.
In Tripura, Gournagar Meira Paibi Lup observed the 79th Nupi Lan memorial at Gournagar, Khowai sub-division.
Khumnanthem Tababi, Khoisnam Mangal, general secretary of Manipuri Literary and Cultural Forum Tripura, S Khelamohon, B Jibananda, president Gournagar Youth Club, M Sachindra, social activist, Subendhu Pal, OC Khowai PS and Thangjam Mamta attended the event as presidium members.
Poem recitation and Manipuri cultural events marked the observance, said, a statement of Manipuri Literary and Cultural Forum, Tripura today.
