For the first time in SKY Hospital, a child, only 4 months old, was operated for a large birth heart defect/hole called Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) on November 18 successfully.
The baby boy named Kh Doyan, s/o Kh Devan Singh from Khurai Chingangbam Leikai, Imphal East was brought to the Free Children Heart OPD on November 2 with recurrent cough, fever and breathlessness and chest infection, said a statement of Sky Hospital today.
Free Echocardiogram (heart scan) was provided to him on the same day which revealed the large PDA, which started to damage the heart in the form of dilatation of left ventricle (main chamber of the heart) and severe pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) which was 69 mmHg (normal range < 30 mmHg).
