Water supply work from Tbl Proj to Imphal stopped

The tunnelling works taken up by Coastal Pvt Ltd with the aim to deliver fresh drinking water from Thoubal Project to Imphal City and its surrounding areas, have completely come to a standstill from today after the authorities concerned failed to pay the company for its works.
However, on the other hand, Water Resource Minister Letpao Haokip has claimed that only Rs 3-4 crore are pending as payment to the company and the State Government is trying to sanction Rs 20 crore at the earliest.
According to a source from Water Resource Department, Coastal Pvt Ltd is constructing two tunnels so as to bring water from Thoubal Project and one of this tunnels is 2.3 kilometres long while the other one is 1.8 kilometres long.
The source continued that works on the 1.8 km long tunnel has been completed while only lining works of around 158 metres of the second tunnel is yet to be completed.
The total cost of the tunnelling work is Rs 1998.99 crore and the Government is yet to pay Rs 31 crore to the company, the source informed adding that in the past, the company had stopped working in a similar manner after the Government failed to provide the necessary payment but the issue was resolved.
