Imphal, October 12 2012:
Even there is continuous production of qualified musical artistes the Shree Shree Balmukunda Dev Music College, Palace Compound continues to suffer from Government negligence.
Speaking to the Sangai Express on condition of anonymity, a College functionary confided that till date no graduate from the institution has been provided Government job.
While future prospect of the musical graduates continue to be very bleak owing absence of Government policy for absorbing qualified musical artistes, the students too are being neglected when compared with their peers in non-musical institutions.
For instance, said the functionary, students pursuing general studies in schools or colleges get scholarship every year but there is no such incentive for the music college students.
Inspite of sports and art and culture constantly bringing laurel to Manipur, neglecting aspiring musical artistes had been acting as an anti-dote, regretted the functionary.
It is said that the College established in 1962 and affiliated to Lucknow-based Bhatkhande Sangeet Vidyapith, provides six year course to the students, each batch having total strength of 50 male and same number of female.
Students of the College are also asked to perform at several Government-organised events at short notice, in the aftermath of disbanding the musical group of Directorate of Information and Public Relations.
Moreover, scraping of music class in Government schools and colleges of the State has also diminished prospect of the Music College students to get employment opportunities upon completing their course of six years labour, added the functionary.
