Four non-locals sent back: JCILPS

Jiribam, August 04 2018: JCILPS Student Wing, Jiribam branch in a press meet held today at the office of All Manipur Student Union (AMSU) District Committee, Jiribam stated that four (4) non-locals, purportedly from Assam, who had tried to enter Jiribam illegally has been sent back after members of JCILPS acted on a tip off about an intrusion attempt made by some outsiders.

Alert members of JCILPS resorted to check and search each and every passenger vehicles and were able to round up four (4) non-locals without verifiable documents.

Chairman JCILPS, Jiribam branch said that since 6 in the morning, major students body including JCILPS Students Wing, Jiribam branch, Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), IPSA Jiribam branch, and Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) come together and has conducted joint search on passenger buses and trucks to prevent infiltration of non-locals who seek to enter Jiribam illegally from Assam while four (4) non-locals who were travelling without any valid verification documents have been turned back during the joint search operation.

While pointing out the drive has been carried out to filter those illegal immigrants from Assam who do not hold valid verification documents following the announcement of NRC draft that has left out names of more than 40 lakhs people in Assam, he said that each citizen of India has the right to visit any part of India but they must possess valid verifiable documents.

JCILPS Convener, Y Sanjiv Meetei expressed that the joint search was conducted as we felt apprehensive about illegal entry of non-locals as a fallout of Assam NRC draft which has rendered more than 40 lakhs people stateless.

Moreover, police personnel were deployed at strategic point and the security measures has been beefed up along the Jiribam border including water route to thwart off illegal immigrants which was triggered after the announcement of Assam NRC draft.

Meanwhile, Manipur Government has taken up stringent measures to prevent flow of illegal immigrants at Indo-Myanmar Border Moreh town while security measures have been beefed up at five strategic points of Tengnoupal district.

A team of Moreh police led by SP Dr S Ibomcha Singh along with Additional SP K Robinsun, OC Letkhohao Vaiphei and sizeable number of police personnel conducted massive search on the passenger buses and trucks plying along the Imphal-Moreh road at Main check post near Kondong Lairembi Khubam.

Checking on passenger buses and trucks will soon be conducted at five strategic points in Tengnoupal district at Moreh main check post, from Indo-Myanmar Friendship Gate No 2 to Muslim Basti, Gate No 2 to Indo-Myanmar Friendship Bridge (Gate No I), Tengnoupal Police check post and Machi PS.

SP Dr Ibomcha Singh said the security measures has been taken by the Manipur Government following the announcement of Assam NRC draft sensing influx of illegal immigrants at Moreh border.
