Leak on pipe connecting with a 50,000 litre capacity of the government oil depot at Sangakpham on the eastern side of the NH-39 has caused panic to the surrounding residents today.
However, it was controlled before causing much damage to the oil depot and residents of the surrounding area.
The incident which would have occurred a major tragedy was first detected by a 15 year old boy named Rabi Dhal who feels smell of petrol when he came to his mother Sunita's hotel.
On getting smell of petrol, he immediately have a look at the surrounding where he found erupting muddy foam at the site.
Fire brigade team on informing the incident rushed to the spot with tender of foam and carbon dioxide and sprayed it at the leak portion and taken up precautionary measures to check outbreak of fire.
How the pipe become leak could not be immediately confirmed by the officials of the oil depot but around 20 drams of petrol was estimated lost in the leaking even though some quantity was able to recollect by the authority of the depot.
