NKCF warns warring factions over Loktak downstream project

Imphal, June 21 2017:
Pointing out that Loktak Downstream Hydro Electric Power Project under NHPC has become one of the long-delayed projects in the State, Nungba Kendra Citizens' Forum warned the warring factions of Taosang village to shed aside their differences regarding the ownership of the land or compensation related matter.
The forum, in a press release said personal vested interests have been an obstacle to the speedy implementation of the project.
It said the long awaited project has not started yet despite urgent needs of the general public especially the people of affected villages in Nungba AC.
It said prioritization of developmental works in hill areas should be done taking into account the fact that a number of pending revenue generation projects such as Loktak Downstream Project are given due consideration.
Once the project is implemented successfully, the poor villagers will experience a new way of living by accessing uninterrupted power supply and all the add on benefits like school, college, bank, hospital, road, information technology etc, the forum observed.
Stating that some of the poor villagers have passed away hoping to see all the changes of life and development through the project, the forum appealed to all the stake holders concerned to come together and bring an amicable solution to the protracted compensation issue in order to implement the project as soon as possible.
The forum said it is ready to extend cooperation and assistance to initiate the long awaited project for the welfare of the people.
