Imphal, October 18 2020:
The Rongmei Youths Development Organisation (RYDO) has appealed to all the Rongmei people living in 51-Saitu (ST) Assembly Constituency to remain united in the face of the ensuing by-election in Manipur.
It has become a convention for any elected MLA in Saitu to neglect the grievances of the Rongmei people once the election is over, said Andrew Gangmei, president of RYDO in a statement issued today.
Claiming that the discrimination against the Rongmei people in the Kendra is based on an ethnic ground, he asserted that the Rongmei people and villages in Saitu Kendra have become a 'gaming field' of some politicians belonging to a particular community to get them elected.
"Now is the time for us to give an exemplary lesson to those politicians who don't care for the plights of the Rongmei people living in Saitu," Andrew lamented.
He also appealed to all the village headmen, khunbu, khullakpa, Village Authorities, Churches and the public to take a resolute stand to bring changes in the leadership making in this by-election so that the neglected section of the people can see the light of development.
Though India is a democratic country, the rights of the people have been snatched away in every election by some unknown miscreants for the last so many years, he alleged and appealed to the authority concerned to ensure that people can freely exercise their franchise.
He also maintained that the Rongmei people and other tribes who have been facing the same grievances must come together and vote for a candidate who will respect the aspiration of the downtrodden section of the people.
The BJP Governments, both at the Centre and the State should also address the 'utter lack of transparency' in the implementation of development works in the Kendra, he demanded.
