Burning of medicines laden trucks roundly condemned

Condemning the act of burning two trucks full of medicines worth Rs 2.3 crore by armed blockade supporters of UNC along the NH 37 at Nungkao area, the All Manipur Anti Drugs Association (AMADA) termed it as an act of uncivilized persons.
AMADA in a press release today demanded that the culprits apologise to the public and appealed to the state government to compensate the loss.
AMADA further warned that the state government and those who burnt down the trucks will be held responsible if ever non availability of medicines in the state arise.
It also urged the SHDDC, UNC and their supporters to refrain from any violent activities and give up the idea of blocking freight trucks carrying essential commodities after piling their stocks.
While reminding of the hardships faced by the common people especially the poorer section of the state, AMADA once again appealed to the blockade supporters to reconsider their stances and take their steps back.
The release raised questions about the inability of the state government and the huge security forces in protecting the trucks under their escort.
It also asked why the government is not doing anything like they do to suppress public uprising or agitation in the valley in which, large number of security forces and violent measures are used to suppress them.
While calling attention of the government on the price rise of essential commodities in the state, AMADA appealed to the government to take up immediate, necessary actions to curb the illegal price rise.
It also slammed the statement of Minister N Biren over the long queue of private vehicles at the service stations of the state many of whom spend the whole night to get some drops of fuel.
Since the economic blockades along the NHs has affected the works of AMADA and the normal life and sustainability of the poor people, AMADA is on the verge of taking up severe form of agitation if the current impasse is not solved at the earliest, the release added.
The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) in a press release also questioned the motive of the UNC and their supporters behind the burning of medicine trucks despite their assurance for free passage for Life Saving Drugs and other vehicles.
While warning the state government of serious backlash from the people of the state who are facing many hardships due to the ongoing economic blockades, AMSU demanded that the government take up immediate and effective steps to prevent such incidents in future.
The All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO) has also appealed to the SHDDC and UNC to withdraw their economic blockades and asked the state government to initiate an effective way to curb the frequent blockades on the National Highways which choke the lives of the poor and common people residing in the valley area due to such frequent economic blockades.
It also warn of possible clash between the agitating bodies and the rest of the people of the state if they do not lift up their economic blockades concerning the sustainability of the poor people residing in other areas of the state.
The Students' Federation of India (SFI) has also appealed to the SHDDC and UNC to lift their economic blockades and demanded to the government to find a possible solution to the current impasses at the earliest to free the poor and common people from the miseries they are facing due to the ongoing economic blockades.
