Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign for police personnel held

The Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign Committee, Thoubal organised an awareness cum sensitization programme on prevention of alcoholism and substance abuse specially designed for police personnel at the conference hall of SP (Superintendent of Police) office, Thoubal today.
The programme was attended by Dr Sarangthem Ibomcha Singh, SP Thoubal, Dr A Jayentakumar Singh, Padmashree, Director, State Level Coordinating Agency, Manipur and A Kameshwar Singh, DSWO, Thoubal as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively, said a statement of the district level committee on Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign, Thoubal.
At the event, Yumnam Laxman Singh, District Level Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign Committee Member talked about the objectives of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign and the various activities and programmes that are being carried out since its launch in August 2020 in the district.
Lakshya Sharma, IPS, Additional SP as a resource person explained the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 to the police personnel.
A Kameshwar Singh called on all stakeholders to collectively work towards addressing the drug menace and make Thoubal a drug free district.
He also proposed that the Police Department may open "Adult Friendly Centres" where youths can be given counselling and proper guidance about careers and harmful effects of drug abuse.
Padmashree, Dr A Jayentakumar Singh stated that intervention/prevention at the early stage is one of the best ways to save a person from abusing drugs.
He opined that the police and NGOs should work together and cooperate in curbing the drug situation in Thoubal.
Dr Sarangthem Ibomcha Singh shared his testimony and talked about how he avoided consuming alcohol despite pressures from his colleagues.
Strong will power and good advice with proper guidance at the right time can save the youths from any form of drugs, he said and appealed all to spread awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse.
As a part of the programme, prizes for a 3-minute long film contest on Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign were also distributed to the winners and participants.
A signature campaign and a street play was also organised.
