TET in Meetei Mayek to be conducted shortly

The 68th Birth Anniversary of Chingsubam Akaba, who dedicated his life for the revival of Meetei Mayek (the original Manipuri script), was observed at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound here.
The event was organized by Luchingpurel Chingsubam Akaba Ningshing Lup.
Speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest, Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro observed that since Meetei Mayek would be included in the High School Leaving Certificate from the year 2015, Meetei Mayek teachers would be required by then.
So, the Teacher's Eligibility Test (TET) for Meetei Mayek would be conducted very soon.
The Minister noted that Meetei Mayek teachers would be required after three years from today.
As such, the need to recruit the teachers of Meetei Mayek would soon arise.
Considering this, the State Government has decided to conduct TET for Meetei Mayek as well.
While appealing to Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillon Apunba Lup (MEELAL) to extend a helping hand in the conduct of TET, the Education Minister further observed that the after some 6/7 years, there would also be need for Meetei Mayek teachers at the college and University level and candidates appearing in MPSC exams would be writing in Meetei Mayek.
So, the existing language Cell, which is under the Education Department, would be upgraded into a separate Directorate.
Terming the brutal assignations of leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Chingsubam Akaba and Moirangthem Ibotombi, who worked for a cause, as most unfortunate for the society, Minister Okendro stated that the seed sown by Lamyanba Akaba has bore fruit today and this can be seen from the various programmes and functions organized in his memory.
The Minister also appealed to all the leading newspaper firms in the State to bring out Meetei mayek edition .as pioneered by Hueiyen Lanpao and help in preserving and promoting Meetei Mayek.
Expressing happiness over the decreasing rate of students from the State going outside for further studies, the Minister stated that in order to keep the tempo and bring about a revolution in the educational set up of the state, the state government has also decided to establish one Government Polytechnic and one B Ed College in every district of the state.
Namoijam Tomba, Advisor of All Manipur Student Guardian Association, who was also present on the occasion as one of the Guests of honour, assured that the Association would be taking a decision to erect a statue of Chiongsubam Akaba in all the educational institutions of the state to remind the student community that Meetei Mayek which is being taught in the school syllabus had been initiated by Chingsubam Akaba.
Presided over by ex-Minister RV Mingthing, the function was also attended by Sairem Nilbir, member of Kangla Fort Board; A Mobi, President of All Manipur Working Journalist Union (AMWJU) and Sadokpam Tomba Mangang, President of MEELAL as Guests of Honour.
To mark the occasion, a monthly bi-edition journal titled "Pandam", the first ever Meetei Mayek monthly journal and its website www.pandamnews.com was also launched.
Prior to commencement of the function, a large number of people paid floral tribute to the photo of Akaba.
Later, several artistes and students recited poems and songs written by Akaba.
