Imphal, July 08 2019:
Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited (MSPDCL) will be initiating an environment-friendly project to save energy in the State, following an extensive assessment on usage of power, utilization of electronic items, electrical load etc at every household of Manipur.
Executive Director of MSPDCL (Commercial) Thangjam Aton made the statement at the inaugural of the five days training programme on 'Demand Side Management & Energy Efficiency with Capacity Building of DISCOMS at North East for Officials of MSPDCL' held at Classic Grande.
The State's power purchase share/ allocation from other power generating unit in India like NHPC, NTPC, NEEPCO and OTC is 237 MW, Aton said.
Aton went on to explain that Manipur is receiving the said allocation on the basis of fully generating the install capacity of the said "power generating unit" and added that if the State cannot produce the required instal capacities of the said units then the State's power purchase will decrease eventually.
Maintaining that the total instal power capacity of India is 3,57,875 MW, the Executive Director added that 79 percent of power in the total capacity is produced by thermal power plants, which has adverse impacts on the environment.
The increasing demand of power has led the power generating units to grow which in turn degrades the environment extensively.
Aton maintained that people should be more aware of how energy and electricity works and added that the time has come for all to use electricity in the right way with efficiency so as to preserve and sustain for the present and the future generation.
MD of MSPDCL Priyokumar Singh and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) New Delhi also spoke at the function.
