CCpur sounds JE alert for residents

The district health authorities in Churachandpur today briefed the media on the need to take pre-emtive measures to arrest another JE outbreak in the district, calling on residents to avoid mosquito bites, keep pig stys and stagnating water away from residential areas.
Churachandpur has since 2014 witnessed outbreaks of Acute Enchephalitis Syndrome (AES)/JE almost every summer.
This year too the health authorities said, they have so far confirmed two cases of JE and one case of Dengue.
With the district facing likelihood of another outbreak, the CMO Dr VC Pau along with Dr Ngahneikim, District Surveillance Officer; Angelyn H.Vaiphei, Data Manager, IDSP; John Baite, Epidemiologist, IDSP; N Johny, Data Entry Operator, IDSP and Dr Monica Khaisnam, Microbiologist, IDSP today briefed the media on the need to take pre-emptive measures to arrest the situation.
Japanese Encephalitis (JE), they said, is prevalent in children below 15 years and if one develops high fever, seizures, severe headache, neck stiffness etc it will be advisable that they quickly take the children to hospital as there is no direct treatment for the disease.
The doctors also advised residents to avoid mosquito bites by using nets on bed, maintain a minimum distance of 100 feet with the nearest pig stys, prevent clogging of water in the vicinity of the house and get treated any possible breeding sites for mosquitoes.
Churachandpur District Hospital has since May this year obtained the much needed Elisa test machine.
The equipment is believed to help tackle any possible outbreak with timely results.
The test for now however is conducted only on Wednesdays.
The machine can conduct test for a minimum samples of 6 and a maximum samples 96 .
