Awareness programme on 'Mulberry Sericulture' held at Koijam village, Chandel

A one day beneficiary awareness programme on 'Mulberry Sericulture' was held at Koijam village of Machi block in Chandel district today.
The awareness programme organised by District Sericulture Officer, Chandel was attended by staff of District Sericulture Office while about 50 beneficiaries from Koijam, Langol, Khunbi, Khunbi Tuinem and Khunbi Tuisen village were also present.
District Sericulture Officer, Amang Mangte, in his key note address, said Dept of Sericulture, GoM has been giving financial assistance for development of Mulberry Sericulture in Machi block, Chandel after Integrated Sericulture Development Project was launched in the State in 2015 for development of Sericulture in the hill districts of Manipur.

Since then, District Sericulture Office, Chandel, under the guidance of the State Directorate of Sericulture, has been able to identify 68 farmers who have established one acre of Mulberry Farms each, added the officer.
Saying that today's awareness was carried out to help farmers have better understanding of Sericulture and to enhance their skill and knowledge in this field, DSO Amang Mangte expressed hope that, after the programme, the farmers will be empowered to make changes and identify areas to make improvement in Sericulture, which is a profitable venture.
He urged the farmers to work with dedication and sincerity.
As part of the programme, Inspectors E Maheswar Singh, Hb Ruwngthung, and N Florence Devi spoke on the topic "Mulberry cultivation", "Importance of disinfection and hygiene in silkworm rearing" and "Late age rearing technology" respectively.
Experienced rearer Shamu Singh also talked on 'Management of Chawki Rearing Technology' .
