Reborn Drug De-Addiction Centre assures measures to step up care for inmates

Regarding alleged 'ill treatment' to a drug de-addiction centre inmate, Drug De-Addiction and Alcoholism cum Rehabilitation Centres Forum of Manipur (DAARCFoM), Reborn Drug De-Addiction Centre (RDDAC) and Drug Rehabilitation Union Manipur, Private (DRUM-P) and family members of a former inmate of the RDDAC have reached an agreement, they said during a joint press meet held at Manipur Press Club.
It may be noted that family members and DAARCFoM had recently alleged that a drug user detained by police personnel was kept at Reborn Drug De-Addiction Centre, Wangkhei Thangapat without family's consent and knowledge for three days.

It was also alleged that the family members were not allowed to identify and meet the inmate when they approached the centre.
The inmate who was diagnosed with Hepatitis C was also 'denied' medicine, the family had alleged.
Addressing media persons at Press Club today, authorities of the DAARCFoM president Shagolshem Herojit said that they have come to agreement that RDDAC will provide medicine as per prescription with the assistance of YRG Care, New Checkon which provides medicines to such patients.
Regarding the allegation that the inmate was kept in the centre for three days without the consent of the family members, RDDAC authorities clarified that they were not able to contact the family members.
The inmate was 'never' subjected to any harassment, they said and assured that all necessary steps and measures will be taken up to enure redressal of the grievances of the inmates, family members in future at the centre.
