Imphal, September 04 2019:
The Joint Students' Coordination Committee (JSCC) has clarified that it did not explicitly ban Teachers Day on September 5 but merely appealed to the authorities concerned to observe it on October 5 similar with the rest of the world.
A statement issued by the media coordinator of JSCC further added that the observation of Teachers Day has turned into a pompous and expensive event where the intent is to give expensive gifts, which in turn has caused inconveniences to the poor students of the State.
Appealing the State Education Department and the Government to ban or prohibit such practices, it clarified that it has no ill feelings towards the authorities or the teachers of the State, but is simply trying to prevent the auspicious event from being completely destroyed and becoming a race of who gives the most expensive gifts.
