Repoll to play decisive role in Chingai constituency

For the 45-Chingai Assembly Constituency the Saturday re-poll in nine polling stations will play a decisive role as the major chunk of electorates is exercising their franchise and the fate of four candidates is still hanging in balance.
The nine polling stations under 45-Chingai A/C, which will go to re-poll on February 4, comprise 45/41Tora, 45/44Somdal AI, AII, B, 45/49Tuinem AI, AII.
45/54 Ringui, and 45/56 Ngainga A, B.The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced a repoll in these PS after it was reported to be rigged and EVMs were destroyed of some Polling stations.
In the Chingai A/C, four candidates namely Preshow Shimray (INC), NK Shimray (AITC), Paul Muinao (NPF) and Khashim Vashum (Ind) are in the fray.
In the January 28 hustings, the Chingai A/C recorded 26,473 votes of the total 37, 814 including the Polling stations that were countermanded and ordered for re-poll.
The voting percentage was pegged at 70.01.This time, however, the voting would likely to be on lower side with the ECI issuing strict instructions to ensure free and fair franchise to the electorates.
Official sources stated that the re-poll would be held under tight security and strict guidelines will be followed.
As many as 93 companies of para-military forces have been deployed in the re-poll areas.
The repoll also include Ngainga, the home polling of the NPF candidate.
On January 28, the polling stations in Ngainga and Somdal registered more than 90 percent voting.
Why the fate of the candidates is still hanging in balance? Interestingly, the combined votes of the remaining polling segments have over 6000 votes.
Sources from various political parties in Chingai AC indicated that the re-poll will be the deciding factor as they are still not certain of their position.
"The nine polling stations have good vote banks and the verdict lies on where the electorates will sway," a Congress party insider said.
