Training for empanelled lawyers held

A three-day training for 50 empanelled lawyers in Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA) concluded at the auditorium, High Court of Manipur, on March 1 as part of the project "Access to Justice" in 8 States of North East India including Sikkim and Jammu and Kashmir.
Summarizing the training at the concluding ceremony Thokchom Ibohal Singh appreciated the outcome of the entire training, according to a statement.
The training has been an activity of an 8-month long programme "Training & Sensitization of 400 lawyers empanelled with the Legal Services Authorities of 8 States of NE including Sikkim" by the Dept of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice, in collaboration with Manipur States Legal Services Authority and Legal Cell for Human Rights (LCHR), a Guwahati based voluntary organization.
45 empanelled lawyers of Manipur State Legal Services Authority from six districts attended the training.
Inaugurating the programme, Justice Kotiswar Singh, Executive Chairman, MSLSA stressing the need to update and to enrich knowledge called upon the trainees to keep abreast with new enactments in order to discharge the responsibilities of lawyers to act on behalf of the vulnerable sections of the society.
Justice (Rtd) BP Katakey, speaking at the occasion said that it is the duty of the advocates to give service to the society.
A person has to be able to give justice to the needy.
To know the intricacies of the law, the regular interaction through the seminars, refresher courses and interactive sessions are important.
Ravi Sagar, Director LCHR gave the road map of the entire programme ahead.
He also stressed that undertaking any profession is not only to earn bread and butter but to bring social change and be sensitive towards the vulnerable sections of the society.
Justice BP Katakey, Dr N Pramod Singh, Advocate, Dr Ch Narendra Singh Advocate, P Ibomcha Singh Director of Prosecution (Retd), I Lalitkumar Singh, Sr Advocate and Ravi Sagar Advocate delivered their lectures on various topics as resource persons.
There was interaction with the participants during the sessions.
Ch Brajachand Singh, member secretary of MASLSA stressed the need of such training programme.
