174 villages declared open defecation free

Imphal, June 14 2017:
Following the implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission launched by the B J-led NDA Government at the Centre, 86.77 percent of the total households in the State have sanitary toilets and 174 villages have been declared as "Open Defecation-Free " zone.
Under the mission taken up by Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, four villages under Potsangbam Gram Panchayat in Imphal West district have been declared as "Open Defecation-Free" zone today.
The villages are Potsangbam Khoiru, Awang Potsangbam, Awang Wabagai and Thourifi.
A total of 504 households in the four villages have constructed individual household latrine under the mission.
The declaration was made by Pradhan of Potsangbam Gram Panchayat, M Mangi Singh during a one-day Gram Panchayat level meeting held at Awang Wabagai community hall today.
Additional Chief Engineer of PHED, L Swamikanta Singh, EE Ch Lokendra Singh and several officials of the Department were present at the occasion.
Talking to The Sangai Express, Zilla Swachh Bharat Prerak of Imphal West, Akham Romila informed that 81.16 percent of the total households in Imphal West have got its own individual household latrine.
She also informed that a total of 1, 15, 090 latrines have been constructed following the implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission from October 2, 2014 .
