Imphal, April 13 2018:
Governor Dr Najma Heptulla today met about 70 ex-servicemen of the Indian Army along with their family members at the Raj Bhavan on the eve of the 74th Anniversary of INA Flag Hoisting Ceremony to be held tomorrow at INA Memorial, Moirang.
The Governor expressed her happiness to meet them and shared a typical Manipuri lunch with them.
Further, the Governor reminded about the massacre carried out by the British soldiers at Jallianwala Bagh in which innumerable Indians sacrificed their lives.
She informed that she will be gracing the Flag Hoisting Ceremony of INA tomorrow at Moirang where a large number of Manipuri freedom fighters also participated in hoisting the tri-colour in 1944 .
She, however, expressed her anguish that many people in the country are not aware of the sacrifices of Manipuris who fought as part of Indian National Army against the British in the struggle of India's independence under Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
Najma pointed out that only few people in the country know that the Manipuris fought against the British earlier also in the Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891 .
A small number of Manipuri soldiers armed only with their patriotism and valour under the leadership of their1 king fought against the mighty British empire and laid down their lives for their motherland.
The Governor made an appeal to the media to make the rest of the people of the country know the sacrifices of the Manipuris as part of INA under Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
