Claiming that the crime against women and children in the country have steeply increased ever since the Narendra Modi led NDA Government came to power in India, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) staged a candle rally at Imphal today evening condemning the failure of the Prime Minister to make any statement against such crimes.
The silent candle rally was led by MPCC president TN Haokip and MLA RK Imo.
MLA Md Abdul Nasir, former MLA Kh Debendra, Md Amin Shah and numerous MPCC workers took part in the rally.
The rally began from Congress Bhawan, passed through the surrounding areas of Khwairamband Keithel and concluded at Congress Bhawan where a sit in protest was staged as well.
Speaking to media persons, TN Haokip claimed that the rate of crimes against women has increased sharply in the country ever since the Narendra Modi led NDA Government came to power.
The rally was organised by MPCC, as per the instruction of All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Rahul Gandhi to carry out mass rally at the capitals and districts of 29 States and 7 Union Territories to pressure the Government to take up strict actions against such heinous acts.
Accusing the Narendra Modi Government of keeping mum despite the alarming increase in such heinous crimes, TN Haokip said that the country is becoming immensely unsafe for women in general.
He pointed out that the rally has been organised with the aim of showing the Government that a society where women do not feel safe is a lost society.
Speaking to media persons, MPCC spokesperson Debabrata Khurnanthem condemned the two gang rapes which occurred at Unnao in UP and Katwa in JK.
Claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has failed to make any statement regarding the two heinous gang rape cases, Debabrata further informed that AICC president Rahul Gandhi carried out a 'Modi Speak' protest at India Gate yesterday night.
