Locals denounce LDA projects in Pumlen Pat

Many organisations and locals have denounced the various projects Loktak Development Authority (LDA) is planning at the Pumlen Pat and Khoidum Lamjao today.
In a meeting organised by Pumlen Pat Khoidum Lamjao Kanba Apunba Lup, Mayai Loishang Nongmaikhong Leimakhong Lairembi at Leimakhong Lairembi Community Hall today, the locals condemned the LDA and asserted that the projects, in the name of cleaning Pumlen Pat, will only make the lives of the inhabitants in the areas harder.
Speaking at the meeting, Pumlen Pat Khoidum Lamjao Kanba Apunba Lup secretary Salam Joy claimed that Khoidum Lamjao once produced half the potatoes, cabbage and other vegetables for the entire State.
As Loktak project came, the farmers were hit hard and their produces were reduced, he asserted pointing out that the LDA's projects at Pumlen Pat and Khoidum Lamjao would drastically affect the lives of the locals, farmers and fishermen in the areas.
Diverting water from Manipur river to Pumlen Pat to clean the wetland would not only affect the locals but damage the wetland also, he claimed.
Further sensitisation meeting on the matter will be held in different places of Hiyanglam Assembly Constituency, he said adding the resolutions taken in the meeting today would be sent to authorities concerned.
H Ibobi, secretary, Manipur Loumi Lup, N Ibomcha, ex-Pradhan, Arong-Nongmaikhong, Th Indira, Up-Pradhan, Arong-Nongmaikhong and many local leaders and elders attended the meeting.
