Kangpokpi, March 04 2020:
The Kuki civil society organisations of Chassad area, Kamjong District lauded International Human Rights Association (IHRA) for highlighting the issue of frequent human rights violation in Kamjong district.
The Kuki CSOs recalled that the Kuki people of Chassad area in Kamjong District are regularly subjected to 'inhuman torture' from the past which made the International Human Rights Association to intervene and fight for justice on humanitarian ground.
However, the Kuki CSO's clarified that it is the 42 Assam Rifles and not 31 Assam Rifles as stated by IHRA, which is currently posted at Chassad and as on date, the Commanding Officer has not been observed siding with any particular community and dragging his name on the issue of the recent incident could be a breach of trust between the local populace and the Assam Rifles.
It further said that the Commandant of Chassad Battalion, 42 Assam Rifles had maintained a cordial relationship with the local people and the appeal of the IHRA to annul the Commanding Officer from his post was made without the knowledge and will of the local people.
