Imphal, June 03 2021:
Deeply concerned over spread of COVID-19 in Manipur and increasing fatality from the virus, Students' Union Kangleipak (SUK) has categorically stated that even if the government is taking up every possible measure to contain the virus, an unforeseen error which might be from the government in taking up control measures or from the general public in flouting norms laid down by the government has brought the pandemic to uncontrollable stage.
In a statement, SUK general secretary Th Tarun Khuman said that frontline warriors contracting the infectious disease and some of them succumbing to it has made clearer that the pandemic has reached uncontrollable stage in the state.
Emergence of Black Fungus cases is equally worrisome, it noted and observed that if diseases which are hard to control continue to attack the land, there is fear of decimation of the small indigenous people of the land.
SUK also urged the state government to give more thought on controlling the pandemic and take up stringent measures to contain it at the earliest in consultation with experts.
While welcoming government's decision on mass testing and mass vaccination, the SUK general secretary appealed to the government to create awareness among the public on mass testing and vaccination so that people could come out voluntarily and make both the programmes successful.
While appreciating opening of CM Grievance Cell and helpline numbers by the district administrations, the secretary maintained that has such steps been taken up timely it would have helped the masses to highlight their grievances at the right time and place.
The SUK statement further said the steps taken up by government to allow home delivery of vegetable and other essential items by private firms has not only reduced crowding but also helped in containing the pandemic.
It also appealed to politicians not to take political mileage out of the present crisis situation but help each other while side-lining political affiliation to defeat the pandemic collectively.
The SUK also expressed strong concern over numerous complaints cropping up from different places over unfair distribution of NFSA rice and also appealed to the government to take up necessary action against private hospitals found over charging for treatment and use of medical equipment against government approved rates or else the state would become a land where government orders are meaningless.
