Bishnupur, January 07 2020:
Days after angry locals blocked and dug up the Mayai Lambi road near Moirang Khoiru Leikai, the road has been repaired with the help of ex-MLA M Prithviraj.
The Mayai Lambi road is vital for the population of Moirang Khoiru Leikai and the many villages along the Thangjing hill range.
As their cry for reconstruction of the road went unheard, locals had dug up the road and blocked passage of all vehicles on January 3.M Prithviraj had then assured the locals to provide all possible assistance.
The repairing work was on a day after the locals protested.
So far, M Prithviraj has provided 14 loads of shingles to level the road, said locals.
With shingling, the road is somewhat safer than before, said the locals thanking the ex-MLA for his assistance and denouncing the local MLA P Sharatchandra for his negligence and failure to keep his assurance to visit the dilapidated road segment.
The locals had approached the local MLA on December 30 last year and he had assured them that he would visit and take stock of the condition of the road.
The MLA has not yet visited the site, added the locals condemning the apathy of the MLA towards the population of Moirang Khoiru and all villages which are affected by the deteriorated condition of the road.
Claiming that work order to blacktop the road was out months ago, the locals urged the Government and authorities concerned to blacktop the road at the earliest.
"If the road is not blacktopped at the earliest, we will boycott local MLA P Sharatchandra," they said.
