One more accused in bomb attack at newspaper office remanded

Imphal, April 26 2021:
The Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West today remanded Md Ashlam Khan (20) to police custody remand for five more days for his alleged involvement in lobbing a hand grenade inside the Poknapham and People Chronicle's office located at Keishampat Thiyam Leikai on February 12 .
Md Ashlam Khan, son of (L) Sirajuddin of Kwakta Ward number 7 is the 9th person arrested in connection with the case so far.
One more accused of the case, Md Abdul Hassan (34), son of Md Itonchou of Saiton Awang Leikai (presently residing at Kwakta Bazar) is presently lodged in judicial custody while the remaining seven others are on bail.
Md Ashlam Khan was produced before the Court after the completion of police custody period along with the prayer for judicial custody remand for 15 days till May 10 for smooth investigation of the case.
The IO through APP submitted that Md Ashlam Khan was directly involved in sending threat message to the media house (Poknapham and People's Chronicle) .
On the other hand defence counsel of the accused submitted that Md Ashlam Khan was a minor and filed a bail application.
The counsel also submitted that the case shall be tried by Juvenile Justice Board by showing a certificate issued by the Principal of Anita Standard High School.
As per an order of the Court issued on April 20, the Principal of the said school was to appear before the Court with original relevant documents to prove that the accused was admitted to the school as shown in the certificate shown today.
The hearing was declared incomplete as the Principal failed to appear before the Court today and the IO of the case was directed to make sure the Principal is present in the Court along with relevant document/ register maintained (in original) on April 30 to show that the accused as admitted to the school in Nursery during the academic year 2008 .
