Ukhrul, July 23 2019:
The Eastern Kuki Chiefs Association (EKCA) of Kamjong area has agreed not to claim ownership in any of the disputed "ancestral land" at Kamjong area again to uphold the cordial relationship between Tangkhul and Kuki communities.
According to a statement issued from the office of the Tangkhul Naga Long, the stand of EKCA came following a joint consultation meeting of EKCA executive committees and Tangkhul CSOs on July 20 at TNL office.
The meeting was chaired by president of TNL Hopingson A Shimray while the EKCA team was led by president Jamkholun Haokip and included six colleague members from Kuki community.
EKCA admitted and expressed regret with the fictitious claim by Phaikok village chief over land and added it was a great blunder.
The irresponsible statement in the public domain has created suspicions between the Tangkhul and Kuki community living in the region, it added.
Leaders of the two communities mutually agreed to work together and check any group or individual spreading hatred by feeding the villagers with wrong information.
Both the parties resolved to endeavour to promote peace and harmony, thereby understanding and honouring the rights and history of the land and to let peace reign in Kamjong area.
