Ukhrul, September 18 2020:
Hunphun/Ukhrul Covid-19 committee has manufactured a foot operated hand wash basin for public use.
The washbasin helps people avoid any contact with water tap by hand.
Phungton Shaiza convener of Hunphun/Ukhrul Covid-19 Committee said the foot operated hand wash basin was co-designed with his colleague Soreingam Mung who runs a mechanical workshop in Ukhrul.
It will be very convenient for public use in any gathering programme.
Phungton said they named the foot operated wash basin as 'touch free hand wash machine'.
The Chief Medical officer (CMO) of Ukhrul District Dr Kapangring introduced the 'touch free hand wash machine' yesterday during the observance of 18th World Suicide Prevention Day at HA Rashing hall, Awungtang, Ukhrul.
The CMO demonstrated the foot operated hand wash basin.
"It is a commendable job", the CMO said.
The fight against Covid-19 should not only be by health workers but should be the duty of every individual to find out ways and means to contain the spread of the contagion, he added.
Dr Kapangring later handed over the 'touch free hand wash machine' to the headman of Ukhrul village HA Sarimaya.
Soreingam Mung, who innovated the washbasin said that the hand washbasin was designed in a simple way to make the price affordable.
The materials required for making the washbasin are easily available in the local market.
It cost around Rs 5000 to build one such washbasin.
Soreingam also said he is willing to share his ideas to all those who are interested in making one such wash basin.
The observance programme was organised by the National Mental Health Programme, District Health Society, NHM Ukhrul in association with Hunphun/Ukhrul Covid-19 Committee.
