Tockay Geckos freed

Imphal, December 14 2012:
Twenty two Tockay Geckos which were rescued by personnel of Assam Rifles from different places of the State were freed at Langol Hill range today by a team of Forest Dept officials led by Deputy Conservator of Forest (Park and Security), L Joykumar.
Among the 22 freed Tockay Geckos, two were rescued by a team of 24 AR posted at Tengnoupal while the rest was rescued from illegal traders by 13 AR posted at Khongsang in Tamenglong district on Dec 11 .
The 13 AR handed over the rescued reptiles to DFO, Tamenglong.

Forest Dept official L Joykumar urged all concerned to preserve the fauna of the State instead of illegally trading them.
Representatives of People for Animal, Thoubal said few prominent and responsible individuals are involved in the illegal trade while warning that the identities of the individuals would be made public if they did not stop their activities immediately.
Director of Manipur Zoological Garden, Arun RS and DFO Tamenglong H Golmei were also present at the releasing drive today.
