Hundreds of fans turned up last night at Kholmun playground when Ncy Doungel's 500 plus lyrics were officially celebrated in a grand ceremony wherein the ace lyricist and composer was showered with extensive gifts.
A towering Thadou-Kuki lyricist and wordsmith, Ncy Doungel was presented an Alto Car by the ADC members while the organisers handed over to her a housing plot they have acquired earlier.
They have also presented her a cash reward of Rs 3.5 lakhs.
Walking into a specially set-up dais and receiving a thumping traditional reception, Ncy Doungel, still a spinster, received heap of praises as was deliberately planned and executed by the organisers throughout the ceremony that run late into the night.
'Ai' is a Kuki traditional festive rite performed to honour individual's extraordinary achievement while 'Jaila' signifies song.
The deputy commissioner Jacintha Lazarus inaugurated the Zaila-Ai's souvenir while executive member of the District Council, M Gouzamang Guite launched a special album recorded to mark the day.

As singers, one after another, veterans to new entrants sang the songs of Ncy's celebrated numbers, the noisy crowd at times turned nostalgic validating the organisers' claimed that her songs touched the hearts of everyone in her society, one way or the other.
Addressing the people gathered, Ncy speech was choked with gratitude but at the end she promised her fans that she would continue to express her feelings through her songs.
'I'll continue to write songs for the love I have to my land that I live and the society I belong,' she said and added that she would maintain her tradition and style of not hurting anyone's sentiment through songs.
